Nick’s yoga practice began in college and has become a pillar of his daily life. Today, he mainly practices the Ashtanga primary series, When he practices, each asana (posture) is a meditation - an opportunity to train the mind to focus on the breath & body without distraction. Through his practice, he cultivates concentration and experiences what it’s like to be present, not lost in thought.
Nick doesn’t think there is anything magic or mystical about yoga. Instead, he views his practice as the development of a practical skill set: the ability to focus his mind for extended periods, to be aware of his own thoughts and emotions, and to approach his ever changing experience with equanimity. This is how the masters have taught yoga for thousands of years, and this teaching is emphasized in Nick’s classes.
Each time Nick steps off his mat, his mind is a little bit quieter than when he stepped on. His goal as a teacher is to share this experience with his students.”
